Local Tax Information

How Much Local Taxes Must be Held by your Employer?

Local tax is deducted by your employer regardless of your visa type and duration of stay. Local taxes usually refer to taxes that are assessed by political entities smaller than the state, such as cities or counties.

The amount of the local tax varies by locality but is usually around 1% of your gross income. You cannot claim this type of tax back.
To determine the amount of local tax you have paid, please see box 19 of your W2 form.

If the box is empty this means you have not paid local tax at all.

Do not Forget

If you worked for more than one employer you have to add the local tax withheld by each.
